Clinical Observation on Chinese Medicine Combined with Acupuncture for 100 Cases of Sudden Deafness

Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of Chinese medicine combined with acupuncture for sudden deafness.Methods The sudden deafness patients were randomized into Chinese medication group and western medication group,with 100 in each.The modified Yingqiao Powder(Lonicera and Forsythia Powder),Longdan Xiegan Decoction(Gentian Liver-Draining Decoction) and Tongqiao Huoxue Decoction(Orifice-Freeing Blood-Quickening Decoction) were given to the patients in the Chinese medication group respectively according to the three syndromes of invasion of the external pathogenic wind,upward flaring of liver fire,and qi stagnation with blood stasis.Then acupuncture was applied once every other day on Yifeng(TE 17),Ermen(TE 21),Tinggong(SI 19),Tinghui(GB 2),Waiguan(TE 5),Hegu(LI 4),Zusanli(ST 36),Sanyinjiao(SP 6),Taixi(KI 3),Taichong(LR 3) and Zuqiaoyin(GB 44).Xuesaitong Injection(injection for thrombosis) was injected intravenously as well.The western medication group was treated with alprostadil injection and mecobalamin.The improvement of hearing,tinnitus and vertigo,the time of symptom disappearance,the therapeutic and adverse reactions were observed in both groups.Results The total effective rate of hearing was 91.00% and 69.70% respectively in the Chinese medication group and western medication group,with significant difference between groups(P0.05).The total effective rate of tinnitus was 94.85% and 90.11% respectively in the Chinese medication group and western medication group,with no significant difference between groups(P0.05).The total effective rate of vertigo was 95.92% and 97.22% respectively in the Chinese medication group and western medication group,with no significant difference between groups(P0.05).The difference between groups in symptom disappearance time of hearing,tinnitus and vertigo was not statistically significant(P0.05).There were 22 and 32 cases of invasion of the external pathogenic wind syndrome in the Chinese medication group and western medication group respectively,and the total effective rate of hearing was 95.45% and 65.63% respectively,with significant difference between groups(P0.05).There were 22 and 27 cases of invasion of the external pathogenic wind syndrome accompanied with tinnitus in the Chinese medication group and western medication group respectively,and the total effective rate was 95.45% and 74.07% respectively,with significant difference between groups(P0.05).There was no significant difference between groups in the symptom efficacy of other syndromes(P0.05).There was no adverse reaction in both groups during treatment except for one case of rash in the Chinese medication group.Conclusion Chinese medicinal combined with acupuncture is effective for sudden deafness.
