Abstract

Hypoxic microenvironment is an important common feature of solid tumors, which influences tumor progression and prognosis.Studies have shown that overexpression of the Hypoxia-inducible Factor-1(HIF-1)has been observed in many human cancers and the major mechanism of the adaptation of cancer cells to their hypoxic microenvironment is the regulation of transcription HIF-1.HIF-1 plays a central role in tumor progression, invasion, and metastasis through activating the target genes, and it triggers off a poor prognostic outcome of conventional treatments. Therefore,it is particularly important to study on the relationship between HIF-1 and human tumors. Here is to make a review on the basic information and the target genes of HIF-1,and its correlation with angiogenesis, energy metabolism, invasion and metastasis, proliferation and apoptosis of the tumors.
