A REVIEW OF THE IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON TOURISM

Over the past six decades,tourism has experienced continued growth to become one of the largest and fastest growing economic sectors in the world.Global climate change was considered to bring not only great challenges to the sustainability of tourism but also some new opportunities.Climate change will induce the geographic and seasonal redistribution of the climate resource for tourism and influence tourist flows and operating costs of tourism sector.A wide-range of climate-induced environmental,social and economic changes will also have profound effects on tourism at the destination and regional level in an indirect way.In this paper,the various direct and indirect impacts of climate change on tourism are firstly introduced.Then the progress of the impact of climate change on the supply of climate resources for tourism,tourist behavior and the adaptation strategy of tourism setcor is reviewed,and the features and gaps in current researchs are summarized.To promote the study on the impact of climate change on tourism sector of China in the future,more attentions should be paid to the following issues:(1)strengthen interdisciplinary research and cooperation;(2)fully understand the characteristic and pattern of regional climate change in China and overall grasp the negative and favorable impacts on tourism sector;(3)strengthen the study of the impact of climate change on tourist behavior;(4)integrate climate change issue into the development planing and decision-making within the tourism sector;(5)harmonize climate change adaptation and mitigation in tourism.
