Confucian Businessmen and Business Ethics

Under the trend of modernization in the commodity economy,the Instrumental Rationality is considered to overtop Value Rationality.The profit-seeking mentality causes the breakdown of business ethics,and many notorious social events.In this paper,the author tries to sketch the essence of Western Culture of Modernity,and stresses that the distinguished enterprise depends upon good business culture and ethos.The basic Confucian ethical ideas can be traced back to Pre-Qin Period,and fair and just division of labors and distributive justice were mention by Xun Zi.Confucianism also emphasizes social harmony and common well-being.The proto-type of Ru Shang(Confucian businessman)appeared under the moral tradition of Confucianism,and Hui merchant(businessmen of Anhui Province)set up business corevalues such as loyalty,kindness,honesty,sincerity,to be their business ethics.Finally,a brief sketch of contemporary Confucian businessmen and their elegant demeanor,and how they achieve successful business based on Confucian ethics and hold their Corporate Social Responsibility would be amplified.
