Abstract
The space-truss arch supported cable network structure is a new hybrid spatial structural system. Tests on a 1∶20 scale structure were performed to study the characteristics and the interactions between the pre-stressed cable networks and the space-truss arch. The finite element model of the scale structure was developed using the commercial software ANSYS. The calculated results agreed well with the test results. Both the experimental and numerical results show that the hybrid structure has very good mechanical strength. The pre-stressed cable networks restruct out-of-plane buckling of the space-truss arch which greatly improves the out-of-plane stability of the space-truss arch.
