Contemplation on the Role of China and U.S.in the Multi-lateral Cooperation in East Asia

Bilateral cooperation has been regarded by China and U.S.as the pillar of their relation,meanwhile the interests and influences of these two countries are inevitably crossed and overlapped in the structure of multilateral mechanism,so both China and U.S.attach great importance to multilateral cooperation.As a big power in East Asia,China took a late participation in the multilateral cooperation of East Asia and now plays a relatively non-leading role as an active participator and promoter.Not located in East Asia, U.S.enjoys outstanding influence on East Asian multilateral cooperation owing to its hegemonic status and traditional strategy.Now U.S.wants neither an interruption by such multilateral cooperation on traditional system of bilateral security alliances,nor an isolation of itself from the process of multilateral cooperation in East Asia area.Therefore China and U.S.as dual big powers in the East Asia region should fully utilize current multilateral cooperative mechanism and cultivate new regional cooperative regime with an emphasis on security cooperative mechanism,which could be launched from breakthrough on the points of common security concern of both countries in this region(such as energy cooperation).
