Abstract

Laser hardening is a new method for surface hardening of gear tooth. It characteristics of little deformation after hardening compared with carburized gears, which can be widely used in the industries. According to the two different heat treatments of gears, laser hardening and carburizing, the base materials, manufacturing process and production cost of two different hardened-gears are compared. The research results show that laser-hardened gears are economical compared to carburized gears.
