Abstract
Release source, including the nature of flammable substances, the characters of the release sources, the characters of the ignition resources, mode of the systems operation and the environmental factors are the essential factors affected to the classification of the hazardous areas. The author summarizes the affection of these factors to the risk level of hazardous areas and the size of the classified locations with some examples by the analyses and quantification. In this way,it is simplified to the classification of hazardous areas in practices and it is very helpful to proper categorization and grouping and determination of the size of the different divisions / zones. Thus,it makes the classification of the hazardous areas objective and practice.
