Abstract

Directly coupled simulation was employed to investigate the temperature fields of cylinder head and cylinder block of a three cylinder gasoline engine by using CFD software. The computational model included cylinder head, cylinder block and water jacket. The calculating result shows that the highest temperature of cylinder head is 223.8 ℃,the wall temperature distribution of each combustion chamber on the cylinder head is different and the lowest wall temperature occurs in third cylinder, the highest temperature of cylinder block is 283.8 ℃,which occurs at the block bridge region between second cylinder and third cylinder. The calculating results were well in agreement with the measured values, and max error was 7.64%.It is shown that the directly coupled calculation can predict the temperature field of cylinder head and cylinder block with sufficient accuracy.
