Abstract
The annual net primary productivity and carbon content of the Potentilla froticosa shrub were assessed by combining sample plot investigation and unearthed P.froticosa plants measurement, and also by analyzing with linear regression equation the shrub's accumulated stem biomass, the belowground and the newly growing aboveground biomass which consisted of the length, width and height of the shrub canopy from June to September of the year,as well as the proportion of Potentilla froticosa shrub and herbaceous plants in the sample plots. Results show that the actual quantity of P.froticosa woody plants' belowground biomass turnover amounted to 53.7 g/m~2,a turnover rate of 26%,in the year 2004,while the newly growing aboveground biomass reached 41.0 g/m~2,and the net primary production,94.7 g/m~2.Based on the proportion of the herbaceous plants being 60% and of the Potentilla froticosa woody plants,40%,in the sample plot, the total annual net primary productivity of Potentilla froticosa shrub measured up to 858.3 g/m~2,which converted into carbon would be 481.9 g/m~2.
