Abstract
This paper analyses the basic characteristics of computer-aided manufacturing in its advanced stage and points out the new understanding of the relationship between manufacturing, humans and the environment. Furthermore, it introduces the philosophy of virtual manufacturing that is adaptable to the advanced stage of computer-aided manufacturing and can solve the conflicts between manufacturing, humans and the environment.
