Sequential moxifloxacin therapy in treatment of elderly patients with community-acquired pneumonia

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the efficacy,safety and cost of sequential moxifloxacin therapy in elder patients with community acquired pneumonia compared with moxifloxacin injection.Methods 80 elder patients with community acquired pneumonia were randomly divided into two groups,which were treated with moxifloxacin injection followed by tablet(sequential group) or moxifloxacin injection group(control group).Results The effective rate for the sequential group was 90.00%.While for the control group was 92.50%.There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups(P0.05).The bacterial eradication rate in the two groups was 88.23% and 88.89%,respectively.There was also no significant difference between the two group(P0.05).The average cost and the incidence of adverse drug reaction of the sequential group was lower than that of the control group.Conclusion The sequential moxifloxacin therapy for CAP is safe,effective,and cost-saved compared with full-course moxifloxacin infusion.
