Blood Loss from Laboratory and Iatrogenic Anemia:the potential crisis in ICU

Every patient needs blood test during the hospitalization and it is more frequently during the critical patients in the ICU. There are many reasons why physicians order lab tests. Tests are often used to confirm the diagnosis and guide therapeutics. But the iatrogenic anemia generated is always ignored.The degree of the severe condition of patients and the dysfunction organs is the main influence agents of the blood loss. But meantime the inadequate phlebotomy techniques、efficiency of the instrumentation and the test ordering practices by phycisians may lead to more waste of blood sample. The whole society need to try to decrease the blood loss for test by standard medical management and changes in phlebotomy techniques and instruments in case of maintaining the need for the patients' condition and treatment.
