Abstract

On the explanation of Zhire(执热) in sentence Who can hold anything hot? Must he not dip it first in water? from Sangrou in The Book of Songs,opinions have long been varying.Furthermore,according to illustrations from Pre-Qin literature such as Zuo Zhuan and discrimination on the relationships between Zhi(执) and Zhi(止) and Jiu(救),Zhi(执) should be explained as having the meaning of Zhi(止),and Zhire(执热) as Zhire(止热).
