Abstract

Objective To evalute the status of central obesity and its influencing factors among residents of 35 to 74 years old in Qingdao city,Shandong province. Methods A total of 5 000 subjects aged 35 to 74 years were selected with multiple-stage sampling and surveyed.Waist-to-hip ratio was used as an index to judge central obesity.Univariate and multivariate unconditional logistic model were used to analyze the contributing factors of central obesity. Results The prevalence of central obesity among the residents was 49.5% and 48.1% after standardization.Unifactor model demonstrated that age, female gender, family history of obesity, smoking, having high fat diet, high education, high monthly income, physical activity, and creatinine were related to central obesity.Multivariate logistic model showed that age of equal or more than 45 years, female gender, family history of obesity, monthly income over 1 000 Yuan RMB,and having high fat diet were risk factors of central obesity, while higher education than primary school and physical activity were protective factors of central obesity. Conclusion The prevalence rate of central obesity among the residents of 35 to 74 years old in Qingdao is high. Both genetic and environmental factors contribute to central obesity and comprehensive measures are needed to control central obesity.
