Diagnosis and treatment of extreme lateral lumbar disc herniation

Abstract
Objective To analyze the diagnosis and treatment of extreme lateral lumbar disc herniation in order to promoting the cognition of this disease.Methods 12 cases of extreme lateral lumbar disc herniation were operated through different operative methods.Results 3 cases got delayed diagnosis.All cases were followed up and the results were excellent in 11 cases and good in 1.Conclusions Extreme lateral lumbar disc herniation is mainly involved in the same ordinal nerve root.CT exam is a better method.There are several operation approaches can be selected.The paraspinal approach between multifidus and longissimus muscle should be recommended for simple extreme lateral lumbar disc herniation.The main cause of misdiagnosis is short of systemic cognition about this disease.
