Relationship between the Floor of Maxillary Sinus and the Roots of Maxillary Molars Based on Cone-beam CT Data

Objective:To analysis the relationship between the floor of the maxillary sinus and the roots of the maxillary molars.Methods:The datas of the patients accepted cone-bean CT scanning with the maxillary posterior part were collected.The relationship between the maxillary sinus and the roots of the maxillary molars was analysed and the distance between the root and the floor of the sinus was measured.Results:40cases were collected in this study.There were 26males and 14females.The root contacting to the floor of the sinus was observed in 12 cases.The root projecting to the sinus was found in 16cases and the average distance was 3.62±0.52mm.The level of the root tip was lower than that of the maxillary sinus's floor in 12cases and the average distance was 3.16±0.42mm.The palatal root of the first maxillary molar was the most conferted.Conclusion:The cone-beam CT was helpful for judging the relationship between the maxillary sinus and the maxillary molars.The result indicated that the maxillary sinus had the most closely relationship with the first maxillary molar,especially for the palatal root.
