Epidemic status of infectious diseases in schools of Futian District,Shenzhen City,2009

Objective To understand the epidemiological features of infectious disease outbreaks in schools of Futian District,Shenzhen City,2009.Methods The descriptive epidemic method was conducted to analyze the outbreaks in schools of Futian District,Shenzhen City in 2009.Results In 2009,a total of 84(6 types) outbreaks occurred in schools of Futian District,Shenzhen City,showing an upward trend year by year.Influenza and influenza A H1N1 outbreaks accounted for 76% of the whole year.Most occurred in primary schools,accounting for 50% of the whole outbreaks,and the most outbreaks occurred during the periods of March-June and Sept-Nov (above 75%).The diseases through the respiratory tract spread accounted for 85.7%,followed by gastro-intestinal spread diseases of 13.1%,and there was a significant difference between the schools and nurseries in the respiratory infectious diseases and gastro-intestinal infectious diseases(χ2=19.79,P0.01).Conclusions In 2009,Futian District,Shenzhen,the main infectious disease outbreaks in primary and secondary schools are influenza and influenza A H1N1 in winter and spring,so they are the main focus for the future prevention and control.
