Abstract
Objective:To investigate the protective effect of propofol postconditioning on neuronal cells after focal cerebral ischemia in rats. Methods:Middle cerebral artery occlusion models were performed in SD rats.54 rats were randomly divided into 3 groups (n =18 each):S group, sham control;I/R group,ischemia-reperfusion group;P group,ischemia-reperfusion with intraperitoneal propofol postconditioning. The neurological deficit score, cerebral infarct volume, apoptotic index with TUNEL staining, levels of Bcl2 and Bax with Western blotting were detected. Results:Propofol reduced the cerebral infarct volume, inhibited apoptotic index, increased the level of Bcl2 and decreased Bax level. Conclusion:Propofol can inhibit the neuron apoptosis after focal cerebral ischemia and reperfusion injury in rats.
