Abstract

Objective:To observe the relationship between systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE)peripheral blood lymphocytes(PBL)apoptosis and its clinical significance. Methods:Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase mediated nick end labelling(TUNEL)technique and flow cytometry(FCM)were used to detect the apoptotic cell in 29 cases of SLE.Results:The rate of apoptosis of PBL was significantly higher in SLE patients than those in normal control(P0001)and in rheumatoid arthritis(RA)(P0001),After 48 hour culture the apoptotic rate was further increased in SLE patients(334%).There was a significant correlation between SLE activity and rate of apoptosis in vitro(r=0866,P0001).Conclusion:Increased rate of apoptosis may be an index of valuation of severity of SLE patients.
