Abstract
The coexistence of c Fos protein and NMDA receptors in the spinal cord following peripheral formalin injection into rat hindpaw was examined by using double immunocytochemical techniques.The results showed that about 26.8%,50.1%,and 64.8% of c Fos like immunoreactive (LI) neurons in laminae Ⅰ Ⅱ,laminae Ⅴ Ⅵ,and lamina Ⅹ of the dorsal horn were also NMDA like immunoreactive neurons,suggesting that the nociceptive neurons located in different spinal laminae might be functioning differentially during long lasting peripheral noxious stimulation,owing to the differential distribution of NMDA receptors on these neurons.
