Abstract
Objective:To observe the development and growth of the mandibular in growing rats after condylectomy or defect of condyle cartilage.Methods:Thirty-six rats were randomly divided into three groups.The first group were condylectomized on the neck.In the second group,the full cartilage on the anterior slope was exercised and the third was control group.Results:Compared with the controls,the height of the ramus(H),the height of mandible(M)and the length of mandible(L)in first group were signifi-cantly shortened6and12weeks after operation.The difference between the first and second groups was significant except the height of mandible(M).Conclusion:The growth and development of mandible was the result of cartilage growth and the stimulus of functional matrix.
