Abstract
The marked effect of number is discussed from the angle of subject-verb agreement.The marked effects of singular and plural countable nouns are explored by two experiments.The results provide evidence that singular count nouns are unmarked or lack a grammatical feature for number while plural count nouns are marked or possess a feature.
