Abstract
Objective:To study the use of computerized tomography(CT) in the differentiation of Alzheimer disease(AD) and multi-infarct dementia(MID).80 cases of AD and MID had the size of their brain ventricles measured by CT.Methods:80 subjects,all of the summary mental state examination(MM SE),to auditory-pubic scan line,conventional brain scanning,measuring three ventricular widths,most of the ventricles of the same width and the level of cranial plate space.Results:In the cases of AD,both the ratio of the distance between the two choroid plexus to the maximum distance between the outer surfaccs of the body of lateral ventricles,and the ratio of the inner transverse diameter of skull to the maximum distance between the outer surfaces of the body of lateral ventricles,were less than those in MID(P0.01).Also,both the third ventricle of brain and the maximum breadth of the lateral fissure were larger in AD than in MID(P0.01).Conclusion:The results indicate that measurement of size of ventricles and fissures might help to the different AD and MID in addition to clinical features.
