Abstract

Objective:To discuss the safety of frontal minitrephination′s application in the endoscopic frontal sinus surgery. Methods:The clinical data of adult patients which undergone endoscopic frontal sinus surgery with the help of the frontal minitrephination were analyzed retrospectively. The frontal ostia of all patients were difficult to identify according to the estimation before surgery or the condition in surgery. The safety of the frontal minitrephination′s operaion was evaluated.Resluts:Patients were identified as having undergone a total of 61 trephinations. In 29 the procedure was unilateral and 16 bilateral. There were no serious complications attributed to the procedure. All patients were satisfied with no apparent frontal scar.In one patient the drill penetrated into the contralateral sinus, then the procedure was done at another appropriate site and successful. Conclusions:Frontal minitrephination is a effective adjunct in the management of complex frontal sinus disease, and the procedure of which is safe relatively.
