Abstract

Objective: To explore the diagnosis and treatment methods for the tumours in the middle cranial fossa. Methods: CT, MRI, CAG and X - ray plain plate were performed to determine the tumors' location, size, shape, feeding vasculars and the relationship between the tumors and surrounding structures. Twenty - six cases of the tumors were resected via appropriate approaches with macrosurgical or microsurgical techniques. Results: Complete removal was achieved in 9 of 12 (81.8%) tumors resected by macroscopic surgery, and in 14 of 15 (93.3%) tumors by microsurgery, without surgical death. No recurrences were seen in 15 patients followed up at a mean period of 3.8 (0.5 ~ 6) years postoperatively. Conclusion: Under microscope the relationship between the tumor and its surrounding structure can be seen clearly in the operative field, then the total removal rate of tumor could be increased.
