Abstract

Detection of benzoic acid and sorbic acid could be accomplished simultaneously using HPLC.The mobile phase was methanol/acetic ammonium(7/93,v/v).The flow rate was set at 1.0mL/min and the detective wavelength was 230nm.There were many interfering peaks for the complicated composition, which often misguided the result. At this point, changing the pH of the mobile phase was finally ascertained as determining method for benzoic acid and sorbic acid. The recovery rate was over 90%,and the result showed good agreement with the GC-MS's using this method, which also could adopted to detect the benzoic acid and sorbic acid in other complex foodstuff.
