Characteristics of the Pancreas Organ Damage in Ducklings Infected with New Type Duck Hepatitis Virus

Abstract

9-day old ducklings were inoculated with new type duck hepatitis virus.The histopathological changes of pancreas of inoculated duckling were examined at 12,24,48,72,96,168 h and 14 d post inoculation.Histopathological examination revealed there was local coagulative necrosis and Councilman′s bodies in pancreas at 24 h post inoculation and it became the most extensive and serious at 48 h post inoculation,between 72 h to 168 h post inoculation,there was heterophil infiltration in pancreas and became more serious.The local coagulative necrosis and Councilman′s bodies decreased,only heterophil infiltration was observed at 14 d post inoculation.Ultrastructural study revealed the necrosis and apoptosis in pancreas cells.The study implied that the duckling infected with new type duck hepatitis virus resulted in both the necrosis and apoptosis in the pancreas,and the local coagulative necrosis in pancreas was one of the typical histopathological changes.
