Abstract
The rift valley over the axial part of an oceanic ridge is the accreting plate boundary. It is one of the most important surface regions which associates closely with the interior of the earth. It has attracted the attention of earth scientists for many years, but the cause of formation of the rift valley over the axial part of an oceanic ridge, has not yet been well explained. In the present paper, by adopting a model of upwelling flow introduced in literature [1], the topographic profile of the rift valley is obtained. Calculation of the depth and width of the rift valley gives results which agree well with observations.
