Improving Quality of General Practice Educators

Objective To explore quality of general practice training through analysing hierarchy of trainers.Feature and competence of supervisory trainer has been discussed.Recruitment condition,professional development and continuing support of general practice trainer also discussed based on Australian and UK experience.Methods Literature review and policy analysis.Results Modern general practice is standing on the shoulders of giants.Masters of general practice,such as Nicholas Pisacano and John Murtagh,direct training not only on academic wisdom but also with their spirit and moral standing.General practice champions are backbone of the discipline.They preserve and develop the general practice,based on their acquisition as well as environmental support.Human resource of general practice training is composed by qualified medical doctor,outstanding GPs who trained and supported continually through their training career.Conclusion Well-established general practice training program has appropriate standards of selecting,training and supporting trainers and supervisory trainers.Implication for Chinese general practice is to prioritize supervisor or champion selection and training as current general practice strategy.For building quality team of general practice trainers,relevant standards need to be developed based on Chinese circumstance.
