Abstract

The PTFE/nano-SiC composites which modified with titanate and silane coupling agent were prepared by cold pressing with sin tering mothod. The friction and wear properties of the composites were tested against a 45 carbon steel counterfact on a MM-200 wear tester at room temperature and under dry friction condition. The worn surface of the composites was examined by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),as an attempt to examined the wear mechanism of the composites. The results showed that nano-SiC could increase hardness and anti-wear.The tribological properties of PTFE composites modified with titanate and silane coupling agent were improved. The composites modified with titanate coupling agent had higher hardness and better tribological properties than the composites modified with silane coupling agent. The surface wear of two kinds of composites modified with titanate and silane coupling agent were similar. The wear mechanism of the composites modified with two kinds of coupling agent mainly exhibited adhesion wear, but the composites without treatment nano-SiC appeared fatigue wear.
