Abstract
Objective To compare the effect of 0.5% compound tropicamide and 1% cyclopentolate for cycloplegia in school-age children.Methods A total of 212 children with ametropia whose age ranged from 6 to 12 were randomly divided into two groups.Patients in treatment group(n=75)were administered with 0.5% compound tropicamide ophthalmic solution,and those in control group(n=137)were administered with 1% cyclopentolate ophthalmic solution three times with 5 minutes intervals.Thirty minutes after the last drop,cycloplegic refraction was measured with autorefractomer.The differences of the values of spherical equivalence(SE) and cylindrical power(CP) before and after mydriasis were compared in both groups.Results In treatment group before and after mydriasis,the values of SE were(-2.82±0.99)D and(-2.55±0.97)D(P0.001),and the values of CP were(-0.68±0.66)D and(-0.67±0.60)D(P 0.05),respectively.In control group before and after mydriasis,the values of SE were(-2.31±1.22)D and(-1.99±1.20)D(P0.001),and the values of CP were(-0.57±0.59)D and(-0.55±0.54)D(P0.05),respectively.There were no significant differences in the values of SE and CP after mydriasis between two groups(P0.05).Conclusion Both compound tropicamide and cyclopentolate are of the same effect in cycloplegic refraction for school-age children(age 6~12).
