Abstract

Based on the Regional Ocean Modeling System(ROMS),a successful simulation for the tides and tidal currents has been done in the Bohai Sea,the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea(BYES).By comparing the model results with the observed data in 91 gauge stations, the numerical model results show agreement with the observation well.Model results indicate that semidiurnal tidal system is dominant in the BYES.Four semidiurnal, two diurnal independent and one degraded semidiurnal tide-amphidromic points are well simulated in the BYES,and they are all anti-clockwise.In the Bohai Sea,semidiurnal tidal currents is clockwise, but anti-clockwise for diurnal tidal currents. Both semidiurnal and diurnal tidal currents are anti-clockwise mainly in the Yellow Sea,but clockwise mainly occurs in the East China Sea and Korea Strait.Thirteen tidal current-amphidromic points for semidiurnal, ten for K1 constituent and nine for O1 constituent can be found in the area shallower than 200 meters of the BYES.The distribution of diurnal tidal currents is more complex than semi-diurnal.The tidal energy fluxes of the four major constituents transported from the Pacific to the East China Sea are 118.341GW,19.525GW,5.630GW,3.871GW,respectively.The tidal energy is dissipated more than half in the Southern Yellow Sea,30%—40% in the East China Sea,then a little less in the Northern Yellow Sea,and the least in the Bohai Sea.
