Analysis and Comparison on Different Political Speeches from Interpersonal Function Perspective——A Case Study of Hillary Clinton's Race Speech for Presidential Election and Her Farewell Speech

From the perspective of the interpersonal function in Systemic Functional Linguistics,this paper aims to analysis and compare Hillary Clinton’s two political speeches on two aspects: mood and modality.The speeches include her race speech for 2008 American Presidential Election in Florida and her farewell speech.This paper aims to analysis the choices of words in the two political speeches on different purposes and try to explain the relationship between the words and the achievement of interpersonal meaning.In different circumstances,though the speaker makes different political speeches,they can still establish effective linkages with the audience in order to achieve different speech purposes.
