Abstract
Based on fluid mechanics in porous medium,a new mechanical equation of sealing ability of caprock to hydrocarbons was established in this paper,in which the resistive force of boundary layer was represented as threshold pressure gradient.This equation indicated that the sealing ability of caprock was determined by capillary force,caprock thickness and resistive force of boundary layer(threshold pressure gradient).We used the simulating experiments and published files to test the effects of caprock thickness and hydrocarbon property on the sealing ability of caprock.To understand the effects of the threshold pressure gradient and caprock thickness on the sealing ability of caprock is be favor of discovering special caprocks and more oil and gas resource.
