Abstract
According to the report of ICCAT , this paper analyses the Atlantic tuna fisheries from 1978 to 2002,including the main species, the main kinds of fishing gears and catches in different areas in the Atlantic Ocean, especially the reason for catch fluctuations. It reveals that the Atlantic tunas are composed of yellowfin tuna(28%), skipjack(22%), albacore(15%),bigeye tuna(11%) and other species(8%); the catch proportions of purse seine, longline, baitboat and other gears are 42%, 29%, 22% and 7% respectively.
