Abstract
In this study, the changing of land use and ecosystem service values were evaluated using data derived from the TM images of Shuozhou county in Shanxi province obtained in 1989,1996 and 2008 under the support of 3S. The results revealed that the study area was primarily comprised of cultivated land, meadow and wood-land. Specifically, cultivated land occupied 53. 37% ,44. 20% and 48. 0% of the total study area in 1989, 1996 and 2008,respectively. Furthermore, the results revealed that cultivated land and woodland decreased by 56251. 56hm2 and 24251. 25hm2,respectively. Conversely, the meadow area was increased by 110820hm2. Cultivated land was stable compared to other land use types and some meadow and woodland was transformed to construction land from 1989 to 1996. In addition, cultivated land was still the most stable in all the land use types, and meadow was meanly transformed to cultivated land, woodland and wetland. From the view of spatial pattern of the study area, over the study period, patch number and landscape shape index were increased along with the increasing of coal mining. Meanwhile, landscape diversity index was increased and then decreased,so was the quantity of eco-service value, but landscape cohesion index showed contrary trend.
