Chinese and Western critics regard Main Street's protagonist Carol as an impractical idealist,but we think that Carol demonstrates the feature of based on the principle of idealism and supplemented pragmatism which reflects America's national cultural characteristic of both idealism and pragmatism.Idealism is her virtue,and some pragmatic features based on her idealism become the forceful support which she can hold her ground.
