Abstract
Objective To investigate the correlation between hyperuricemia and intracranial atherosclerotic stenosisMethods A total of 218 patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease who were admitted to the department of neurology,Affiliated Red Cross Hospital of Jinan University, between August 2007 and November 2011,underwent cerebral vascular digital detraction angiography(DSA) and assessment of serum glucose, uric acid and lipids.Patients were divided into group non-stenosis and group stenosis according to DSA findings, with the latter being further assigned to mild, moderate and severe stenosis subgroups.Non-conditional logistic regression was employed to assess the risk factors of intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis, and the among-subgroup difference in the level of serum uric acid was compared. Results Hyperuricemia was evidenced to be,in addition to age and presence of hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia,an independent risk factor of intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis(OR 1.981,P=0.039).The difference in the level of serum uric acid differed significantly(P0.05) between the subgroups([285.8±61.7]μmol/L for group non-stenosis,[301.1±70.2]μmol/L for group mild stenosis,[349.8±66.1]μmol/L for group moderate stenosis and [389.9 ± 84.9]μmol/L for group severe stenosis). Conclusion Hyperuricemia is an independent risk factor of intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis and may indicate the severity of stenosis.
