Abstract
Maisaitong is the main component of Panax pseudo-ginseng Wall(三七). In this study we examined the effect of Maisaitong on the human erythrocyte membrane fluidity by measuring the degree of membrane polarization using DPH as afluorescent probe. Eesults showed that Maisaitong could increase the erythrocyte membrane fluidity. When, its concentration in the medium was 80μg/ml, the fluorescence polarization (P) of the Maisaitong group (n=47) was 0.176 ± 0.026, the microviscosity (η) was 1.275±0.306. While P of normal group (n=40) was 0.279±0.031, η was 3.088±0.336, p0.001. With concentration levels over 200μg/ml, slight hemolysis occurred. The effect of Maisaitong on rbc membrane fluidity is reversible.
