The Changes of Imperial Marriage in the Han Dynasty

The imperial marriage of the Han dynasty is very important in the history of Chinese feudal marriage. It should be made clear that the imperial marriage of the Western Han was different from that of the Eastern Han. The imperial marriage in the Western Han was freer and unconstrained, while that of the Eastern Han was more careful and disciplinarian. This phenomenon emerged because the economic base and culture changed in the Eastern Han. The economic base of the western Han is Small Scale peasant economy and its culture is indulgence; whereas the economic base of the Eastern Han is landlord economy and its culture is courtesy.
