Abstract
This paper bases on data of 14 commercial banks from 1999 to 2008 and analyzes market concentration rate of commercial banks with concentration ratio and Herfindahl Index. The result of study shows that the concentration degree of this market or monopoly intensity is still relatively high, and the whole banks are in the oligopoly structure of the Four State-owed Commercial Bank. But from the trends, the whole monopoly intensity of this market is reducing steadily, and the competitiveness of the banks is being strengthened.Market structure of China's banks begins to shift from the high oligopoly to high concentration oligopoly, from the oligopoly to monopolistic competition, from high concentration to appropriate concentration.
