Study of the Recreational Fisheries in China Compared with Others throughout the World

Development of recreational fisheries in China is now growing rapidly. Based on an analysis of the current recreational fisheries situation in China, a comparison is made with the recreational fisheries throughout the world, particularly problems and obstacles, such as competing with commercial fisheries for the fisheries resources, damage to fisheries resources, etc. This paper suggests the effective countermeasures as follows: building up a greater awareness of recreational fisheries; having research on the definition and assessment of recreational fisheries; preparing the short-term and long-term development plans and strategies; implementing new fisheries laws and enhancing their management; supporting the selected policies.
