Analysis of the gastric emptying of 52 patients with type 2 diabetes

Abstract
Objective:To observe the gastric emptying of patients with type 2 diabetes.Methods:The area and contractive frequency of the gastric antrum of 52 patients with type 2 diabetes and normal control were studied by real time ultrasonography.The gastric emptying rates at 60 and 90 min after meal were calculated.Results:The fasting antral area in diabetic patients were significantly larger than that in controls ( P 0.05).The postprandial antral area,the contractive frequency of antrum within 2 min and the gastric emptying rates at 60 and 90 min at the end of meal were less than that in control( P0.05,P 0.01).The gastric emptying with different clinical cause and HbA 1C in type 2 diabetes were obvious different.But there wasn't any significantly change of the gastric emptying between male and female patients and patients with chronic complications of diabetes.Conclusion:In general,type 2 diabetic patients have the longer gastric emptying time and larger area of fasting gastric antrum.The gastric emptying with the different clinical cause and the control level of the blood glucose in type 2 diabetes were different .
