Abstract

Objective Evaluate the antimicrobial activity of honokiol and magnolol,Methods The essay using high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC)method to measure the contents of honokiol and magnolol isolated from magnolia officinalis, and apply extracts to process the antimicrobial test. Results Using the two double dilution method to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) of honokiol and magnolol isolated from magnolia officinails.Regarding the staphylococcus aureus and streptococcus mutanst,he magnolia officinalis extracts content was 260ug/ mli, nside the magnolia officinalis and honokiol were 20ug/ml and 34ug/ml respectively. Also the MIC of magnolia officinalis extracts of bacillus coli was 325ug/m,linside the magnolia officinalis and honokiol were 25ug/ml and 40ug/ml respectively. Conclusion The experimental research showed that the magnolia officinalis extracts had excellent antimicrobial activity.
