Clinical effects of bisoprolol in comparison with metoprolol in hypertensive patients with non-dipper pattern of blood pressure

Objective To explore the efficacy of bisoprolol in comparison with metoprolol in hypertensive patients with non-dipper pattern of blood pressure.Method Randomized,parallel groups:Bisoprolol group(n=29),treated with bisoprolol 2.5 mg to 5 mg daily,Metoprolol group(n=27),treated with metoprolol 50 mg to 100 mg daily.Evaluation of the result of 8 weeks' treatment,and the change of ABPM.Results The SBP,DBP and HR decreased significantly in two groups after 8 weeks' treatment(P0.01).The total efficacy rate for BP decrease after 8 week's treatment of bisoprolol group is 89.6%,that of metoprolol group is 74.1%(P0.05).The result of ABPM shows the dMSBP,dMDBP,nMSBP nMDBP,MSBP and MDBP decreased significantly in both groups after 8 weeks' treatment(P0.05).There is no other significant difference between two groups for the day BP decrease(P0.05),but a better efficacy of bisoprolol than metoprolol in the decreasing of night BP(P0.05).After 8 weeks' treatment,there are 15 hypertensive patients with non-dipper pattern of blood pressure change into dipper pattern in bisoprolol group,and 8 patients in metoprolol group.Conclusion Bisoprolol has satisfying effect in hypertensive patients with non-dipper pattern of blood pressure.
