The Treatment of Early Skeletal Angle’s Class III Malocclusion with the Twin-block Magnetic Appliance

Objective To investigate the effect of the twin-block magnetic appliance on the treatment of early skeletal Angle’s class Ⅲmalocclusion.Methods 11 young patients with early skeletal Angle’s class Ⅲ malocclusion were selected and treated with twin-block magnetic appliance.Pretreatment and posttreatment cephalometric analysis was carried out.Results There was obvious change on the occlusion position,the distance between the two magnetic blocks increased 4～6 mm,SNA increased 3.15 mm,A point moved forward;PP-SN reduced while MP-SN FMA and 1-SN increased.There was significant difference after treatment by statistical test.Conclusions The twin-block magnetic appliance has good effects in the treatment of early skeletal Angle’s class Ⅲmalocclusion;The alteration of the intermaxillary relationship is the result of skeletal and dental reaction,but mainly due to the skeletal response;The twin-block magnetic appliance can make maxilla rotate counterclockwise while make mandible rotate clockwise,so it should be used correctly.
