Abstract
One of the important aspects in biomineralization is the controlled nucleation and growth of inorganic minerals by organic matrix excreted by the cell, which leads to the ultimate formation of biomineralized materials such as bone, teeth, and shell etc. with the hierarchical structure and special assembly. Recently, a new field called biomimetic synthesis was developed on the basis of biomineralization principle. This synthesis process is characterized by high effiiency, in-order and automatization, etc. The synthesized materials, biominetic materials, will find a potential application in many fields because of their particular properties. In this paper, research progress in the application of biomineralization is reviewed in the fields of biomimetic materials, crystal engineering, coating as well as prevention and cure of disease caused by pathology mineralization.
