Abstract
With the aim of reviving Confucianism, Liang Shuming’s Neo-Confucianism criticized seriously the western style of research of the May 4th Movement which deviated from the tradition of Chinese culture. He tried to re-explain the essence of Confucianism by emphasizing the spiritual value of Confucianism in modern period and by bringing western knowledge into Confucianism to resolve internal conflict between tradition and modernization. His Neo-Confucianism has important status and influence in the modern history of Chinese ideology and culture.
