Effect of adjuvant chemotherapy on micrometastasis in breast cancers' peripheral blood by means of detection of CK19 mRNA

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate effect of adjuvant chemotherapy on the control of the micrometastasis of breast cancers by detection of CK19 mRNA in peripheral blood.Methods: Sixty postoperation-breast cancers studied were divided into 0~Ⅰ,Ⅱand Ⅲ three groups.CK19 mRNA was detected as the marker of peripheral micrometastasis by means of RT-PCR pre-and post-adjuvant chemotherapy individually.Results: Positive rate of micrometastasis in three groups was: 0-Ⅰstage 0%(0/9),Ⅱstage 16.22%(6/37) and Ⅲ stage 57.14%(8/14),which varied significantly before operation individually(P0.05).Post-chemotherapy positive rate of micrometastasis was 3.33%(2/60),which was significantly lower than that of pre-chemotherapy one 23.33%(14/60).Conclusion: Advanced breast cancers are more likely to have micrometastasis in peripheral blood.Adjuvant chemotherapy can control the micrometastasis of breast cancers and play an important role in the prognosis of patients.
